EE 390 · Digital System Engineering

This course covers the 8088/8086 microprocessor hardware and software models before focusing extensively on the 8051 microcontroller, including its architecture, registers, and memory organization. Students learn assembly language programming and debugging, covering instructions, addressing modes, and time delay calculations, along with I/O port programming and interfacing. The course also covers counter/timer and serial port programming, interrupts, ADC interfacing, external memory interfacing, and 8255 chip interfacing, concluding with an introduction to AVR microcontrollers and a hands-on hardware project.
